Coronavirus update, 12-05-20

Following the guidance document issued by the Government on Sunday 10th May, we are hoping to provide clarity to our customers and recreational boat users at the earliest opportunity. One of the industries governing bodies (RYA) made a statement on Sunday welcoming "a return to boating from Wednesday". Unfortunately, the use of recreational sailing and motor boats was not specifically mentioned in the guidance on Monday, so at this time the previous guidance regarding vessel use still remains. Falmouth Harbour and Truro Harbour's advice as of 12th May is also that currently, leisure boating should not take place until we receive specific guidance regarding recreational water activities and that the previous legislation will remain.

We are however proposing to allow limited access to the yard, starting Thursday 14th May by appointment so that owners can prepare their boats for launch, once the restrictions are lifted. If you require access to you boat for on-site maintenance, please call 07879 497 940 to make an appointment. We are however checking all craft either ashore or afloat daily for security and safety. Electric usage is also being monitored and replenished and we are still operating a 24 hr watch for added security.

We will also be contacting everyone with a boat ashore from Friday to ascertain what work you would like FYB to complete, so that we can start to plan a phased return of staff and engineers prior to launching.

In an emergency, to book an appointment or for an update, please call 07879 497 940. Jerry Hobkirk, MD, FYB

Coronavirus update, 23-03-20

As your local dealer for Volvo Penta, Mariner and Mercruiser, we have remained open during the Coronavirus outbreak taking all precautions to limit exposure to customers and staff. The announcement tonight (23/03/20) by the Prime Minister, however, may limit our ability to remain open in the present form. We will review the situation tonight and post a further update tomorrow. Our emergency number is 07879 497 940. If you are an Industrial end-user experiencing difficulty, please call the number above or Action Service. Please note that we will not be treating the launching of any boat as an emergency and we will be cancelling all planned craning and launch dates until further notice. If anyone requires Volvo Penta, Mercruiser or Mariner parts, we may be able to deliver locally or dispatch via Fed Ex or the Post Office. Technical help is also available on 07879 497 940.

Our Marina currently remains open to key holders, but we would ask that extreme care should be taken to avoid any contact with any other berth holder. Jerry Hobkirk, MD, FYB

Coronavirus update, 20-03-20

We remain open for business and thanks to the many people who ventured out today to see us in Penryn. It's been a busy day. Volvo Penta deliveries for our Industrial and Leisure customers continue to arrive as planned, but our concerns regarding future deliveries over the coming weeks remain. At FYB in Penryn, all touch points such as entrance doors, our parts counter, and card machine are still being cleaned and sanitized after every use. May we remind customers that some of our berth holders are over 70 and ask that consideration be given when coming into near contact with them. We continue to offer a free delivery service on parts within 10 miles of Penryn if required. The Marina also remains open for all to enjoy. Please everyone, keep safe. Jerry & Jayne Hobkirk.

Coronavirus update, 19-03-20

We received Volvo Penta deliveries for our Industrial and Leisure customers today from Sweden and Gent in Belgium. Our concern remains that as this virus progresses, deliveries will be affected beyond our control. Our stocks at Penryn remain comprehensive, but we would suggest that if you are planning any work before launching, that you contact us now, so that the parts are available. We would also ask that owners are not present on board their boat whilst we are carrying out work, to protect yourself and our engineers. To date, no one at FYB has shown any signs of being ill, but we continue to take every possible precaution to protect our customers and staff.

Coronavirus/ Volvo Penta deliveries

To date, deliveries of Volvo Penta product from Sweden/ Europe into the UK have not been affected by Covid-19, but as we know the situation is fluid.

With launching season fast approaching, we strongly suggest that consideration be given to ordering any parts now, rather than risking a possible delay that could prevent your boat being launched or used.

Items that usually have to be ordered include some propellers, heat exchanger components and some exhaust elbows on larger diesel engines. Our 24-hour contact number for parts is 07879 497 940

Coronavirus update, 17-03-20

We believe there is currently no perceived risk in handling post or freight. As part of our commitment to minimizing the spread of COVID-19, we have now adopted the following.

All incoming goods, customer orders and packing will now be done using protective gloves. No third-party access to offices, parts storage areas and workshops will be allowed. Common areas' including our customer showroom will be cleaned and sanitized daily.

Currently, Volvo Penta deliveries into the UK are not affected, but this may change soon. If your boat is being launched in the future, it may be worth ordering parts now to avoid any possible future delay.
